When I have a choice, I would love to go shopping ALONE. Especially to the yarn store, I really love to take my time, and search the best ones to own. However, after having Erika in my life, I found that I can’t really ‘enjoy’ the yarn shopping with her.

Not because she wants to leave the store, actually, it’s an opposite, she wants to stay longer than me.
She loves yarn: however, not for knitting, but moving them around , misplace them….

She loves needles: again, not for knitting, but moving the packs of needles from here to there, you know, the stores usually organize them in different sizes, so, she mixed them all together….

She loves buttons: Oh well, usually they have containers for those buttons, but her hands are strong enough to open them, and then ,she will pour them all out and put them back in… you know what happen next : do that again and again, and at last, you will see her playing something else in another corner, but the poor buttons are still on the floor. Don’t worry, I have never let her play buttons in the store, I let her play them at home, you know, if she played that at home ALREADY, she has LESS interest to DO that AGAIN in the store.

She loves Patterns, tell me about it, she love Magazines, books, and leaflets, anything made of PAPER! She will sit on the floor and then flip them over (seriously) …. again, misplace them, or just leave them on the floor. She just reminds me those ‘hit and run’ drivers…

To avoid her doing that, I have to look after her in the yarn store, so, I have no EYE to search my yarn.

Some yarn stores are very considerate, and they already have some toys for the kids to play while the mothers /or dads are busy on searching yarn/needles/buttons/patterns. However, seems like, none of them are interesting if compare with all knitting stuffs.

If you are the parent of the kid, what would you suggest me to do in this case?
OR: what would you suggest the yarn store to do with this?

I love to bring her to yarn stores sometimes, because some sellers are very nice and they understand my situation, they didn’t get mad with Erika’s attitude , but, you know, as a buyer, I do want to have a ‘good record’, no matter how much they like Erika,I think they do prefer the kids not to PLAY those things inside the store, right?

I am not complaining, I just want to find some good ways to make both of us happy while shopping in the yarn stores.

My little Erika loves SHOPPING, I think, she might go TOO much shopping with me in the past, and she is trying to imitate the ’shopping pose’ (oh well, I didn’t hold the bag like that, that’s her own way to carry bags, so funny. ) And funniest part is: she held the bag with the right hand, and then talked over the phone with her left hand.
I love her pose like that, it’s just so funny! haha

What did I do today?

in the morning, I taught piano lessons till around 1pm.

and then, after the lunch with Erika, we brought two big bags of new/used, unwanted yarn stash and crafty stuffs to Knit-o-matic!

I love this kind of swap a lot. Although I only brought one cone of merino home, compare with my size of yarn stash, the ratio is like 1:30. But, I enjoyed it.

I only care one thing: to get rid of the unwanted yarn and let them go to a better home!

I did it!

I also met some knitters in the store, however, they were about to leave, and didn’t get a chance to know each other.

Before we stepped into the store, the sky was till ok, a bit cloudy and not yet rain.

After we got into the car, the storm came! How lucky we were, otherwise, the yarn will soak of rain!

Actually, when I checked my stash after the swap, I found that I still have some more to get rid of.

May be I will wait for next swap (End of JULY?).

I am thinking of selling some more yarn, in ebay? in Ravelry? in Destash ? Where shall I put?

I did knit in the past few nights, (just a bit, not much, I was so tired)  I was working on the sea silk shawl (the one for Angel) I really love the touch of the sea silk, it’s soooo soft and silky!!!

Oh well, this week, I had no luck (a little bit disappointed) on any package from my swaps (I was expecting something from Knitter’s Treasure Swap/Summer of Yarn love, probably next week I will have some surprise! :)

Finally, I started to knit socks again.

I gave up a year ago, because I chose the wrong color for my sock (i chose hot pink, which is not so good on my leg). And I was using double pointed needles at that time, I found myself very clumsy to use them, so, I gave up.

But, I found that the sock yarns are just so yummy that i couldn’t resist to knit socks again.
This time, I used the 2 circular needles method, and it works for me, it’s easier and faster.
I think I fall in love with this method, and I love socks knitting now.

The pattern that I am using is from my library:

Embossed Leaves by Mona Schmidt from Favorite Socks
I am now working on the leg part, it’s fun, and it’s easy to knit too.

The yarn that I am using is the Indigo moon, I was planning to use it for the Pomatomus sock pattern, however, I changed my mind and switched to this one.
I think, I better use a solid color for the pomatomus , otherwise the lace pattern plus the multi color will look too busy.
Yesterday, I spent a morning with my mom and Erika to visit two yarn stores.
the first stop is the Knitmatic, I wanted to search for some nice sock yarn, and I was looking for the Koigu sock yarns, however, when I arrived the store, they didn’t have my colors, and seems like they had less Koigu now.
Then, just few mintues away from this store, I arrived Loop cafe, it’s a new yarn store for ME.
I love this store, when I stepped into the store, you can smell the yummy baking food and the coffee.
It’s a very spacious store for eating, relaxing, knitting and chatting.

I met the store lady there and she was very nice to me and spent some time to show me the yarn and the patterns. I love this place.
The left side is the cafe section, and the right side is one of the yarn sections, you can find some nice sock yarns there…
I bought two skeins of sock yarn there:
1) Ancient Threads, It’s called “tri”, 100% merino wool superwash.
weight: fingering weight, amount: 481 yards/ 100 gram,
one skein is already enough for a pair of socks!
It’s very special the dyeing of this yarn, because this lady used natural food dye , she even wrote down what ‘food’ she used:
for this yarn, she wrote:
“Iac, Cocerineal, mackler, chestnut, black walnut, logwood grey, logwood purple, tumeric, fustic, quebracho red, quebracho green”
I love this color way! (how much? around $25.50)
You can also find this yarn in her esty store .
Another cheaper one is called Elitespun , it’s made in Canada!
100% merino wool, 115 g, 398 m / 435 yards
machine washable.
you can also check out the website for this  brand: www.elitespun.com
I chose a light olive green/yellow one. :)
(sorry, not a good picture, I just my small camera to take this shot, so, it’s not so good.)

Today, I brought Erika to the Unionville Library for the Baby goose story time!
she loves it, although we missed the session for ‘pre-walker’, we went to the one for ‘walkers’.

She could stay for 30 minutes there with other walkers!

The story teller was amazing, she showed and told stories, and Erika loved to listen to her!
She even followed the story teller to wave hands, raised her hands up ,etc.

SHe laughed a lot during the whole time!
I think I will bring her more to this story time program, it’s just great for her to know more people and LEARN more !!

I brought the baby goose handout with me after the class, however, I don’t know all the songs that are printed in the book, probably I need to search them through the internet, and see if there is any file I can download and listen to them.

It’s also the time for me to learn how to sing the songs , rhymes….

After the Baby goose time, Erika fell asleep in the car (it’s her napping time..) so , I drove her with me to Aurora and visited a new store.
I was planning to visit a store named “Knit or Knot”, however, when we arrived the plaza, I found that it was closed!

Then I found another knitting store just few blocks away from there.

It’s called “Needles and Knit” , the store is located on 15040 Yonge Street (it’s a HOUSE.)

Intersection : Yonge & Kennedy

They have lots of yarn there, and with quite a lot of varieties too.
I am amazed to see the NEW Louisa Harding’s Jasmine yarn there!
I bought 4 balls and a set of double pointed needles.

They have lots of pattern books and magazines there, including Louisa Harding, Phildar, Impression, and Rowan magazine!

I wanted to buy the Rowan Magazine, however, when I see that the price is $30, I held back, I was thinking, it might be a bit cheaper in Romni, right?

As I said, the yarn selection is big, they even have some Anny Blatt, Phildar yarn!

There are some eco yarn, bamboo yarns and new Debbie Bliss bamboo yarn as well.
I got a chance to touch the new Louisa Harding’s Mulberry yarn, wow, very soft with the touch of silk (it’s 100% silk!) ! oh well, almost 12 dollars for a ball (I am not very sure about the price.. )and the yardage is about 136 yards.

The store ladies are very nice though ,they helped me a lot on choosing the yarn for a summer scarf!

There is a cat there, she is very cute and she even touched my baby’s hand! haha

The store back is called “York Region Knitting Guild“, but I didn’t have to time to ask and explore more, I only had a chance to take a picture of it.
