Out of my mind
This is my first time to experience the kindergarten in Shenzhen, China. I used to study in Hong Kong when I was very young. So, I really had no idea how it’s gonna be in China! I am actually very impressed with the school that Erika attends. She is now in “K1”, and there are around 14 students in this class with 3 teachers (including one Foreign teacher who is a Canadian.) plus one more nanny for helping the kids on eating, toilet training…etc.
Every morning, one or two of the teacher group will stand in front of the entrance door to wait for their students. They will give us a ‘pick up kids’ card when you leave your kids to them. Then, they will have body temperature check, and then take them to the classroom.
When I am home, around 10am, I will receive a SMS from the “kindergarten doctor”,she will tell me what kind of food they will take for the whole day.
The following is the menu that they sent to us last Friday:
(Lunch: chicken, veggies, steam egg, Chinese soup, and a bowl of rice)
午點 : 銀耳蓮子湯水,火腿花卷,西瓜 (afternoon snack: Chinese sweet soup, Ham roll (with sausage inside) and watermelon.)
When you look at the menu, you know that they really put their hearts in making the yummy food for the kids. Although we don’t know how much the kids will eat, but at least, the school made an effort to have more varieties of food for the kids to choose. Erika doesn’t like greens, but at least, she can take the other so that she won’t be too hungry. She did tell me that she loved the Ham roll, just adored the sausage there. This was her first time to tell me what she loves to eat in school. hahhaa
Finally comes to 4pm, and all the parents can go to school and pick up their kids. We have to bring the ‘pick up kids’ card , and then give them to the teachers and picked up your kids. If you forget to take the card, ha, it will be a big problem, they will not let you to take your kids with you. Actually, I like their security system too, whenever it’s drop off/pick up kids time, there are at least one or two policeman (policewoman) there. And they never let strangers step into the school area. (So, you must have your ‘pick up kid’ card with you.)
Well, at night, all the parents will receive a SMS from the teacher, and she will tell you how’s the class going overall. And at the end of each week, she will send an individual messages to each parent for telling how’s your kids do in school. And she will point out good things and also other things that your kids need to improve at home and school.
I really love this way of communication, you can imagine how much work the teachers have to do every day. They spend so much time with the kids from 7:30am till 4pm.. and then, they have to go home and take care their own kids. Afterwards, she still have to work with the computer because of sending SMS to the parents. I couldn’t imagine how much rest they can have everyday.
And I am very appreciated of the teachers, because no matter how tired they are at the end of the day, they can still smile to you when you pick up the kids, and willing to talk with you if you have any questions regarding the school, class., food… etc.
Sep 10 will be “Teacher’s Day” in China, I am planning to do something for the lovely teachers, but, other than cards (will do that for sure) , what kind of stuffs I can make for them? They really deserve something good….
wow, i am amazed as well! Glad that you gals like the kindergarten there.
